The 18th Frontier Bonsmara auction was held at the Hobson & Co auction yard on Wednesday 16th August 2023.
The facility was packed to the rafters with in excess of 400 people in attendance. 172 buyers registered with huge interest in the 71 bulls which averaged a whopping R95 563.00 per bull. Bragging rights for the top priced bull this year went to Gerrit Meyer who sold lot 17 (GFM 21 0178) to Alphaeton Bonsmaras (Darryl & Jonno Fetting) from Fort Beaufort for R320 000. 27 bulls sold for more than R100 000 each, and the sale maintained its 100% sold record for the 18th consecutive year.
The quality offering of 351 commercial females did not sell as well as last year, and were more market related. Cows and open heifers were in demand, but interest in pregnant heifers was strangely limited.
The Frontier members and Hobson & Co are humbled and extremely grateful for the support of everyone who attended the auction or registered on line. The outcome of the sale was way above their wildest expectations.
